My almost five year old daughter is starting Pre-K on Tuesday at a wonderful little school called Landenberg Christian Academy. She has one of those September birthdays that will make her one of the oldest in her class, which her dad and I are completely fine with. She’s a tall girl for her age so next to some of the 4 year olds she looks especially tall. Which again my husband is fine with since it will be to her advantage in sports to be one of the taller and stronger ones. Yes he’s a high school coach and PE teacher so he thinks a lot about that aspect of school. Sports are the most important thing in school right? Ok so it’s not going to hurt her to be a little more developed emotionally and mentally as well : )
It seems that there are many more parents now who are happy to give their child some extra time before starting kindergarten. Even when their child’s 5th birthday is in August some parents are choosing to have their child continue with PreK and start kindergarten at age 6. I was having a conversation with Noelle’s teacher about this and about how they are encouraging parents to have their kids be one of the oldest rather than the very youngest.
What do you think, were/are you anxious to have your child start kindergarten as soon as he/she can? What is/was your experience with your son or daughter starting kindergarten? Do you think his/her age made a difference in his/her kindergarten experience and then his/her overall school experience?
This summer Sandi Patterson contacted me about a wonderful fundraiser she and her committee are organizing to raise money for the Nemours Center for Childhood Cancer Reasearch. One of the things I love about this fundraiser is that they will be having a fashion show. But not just any fashion show. The models will be children who are childhood cancer survivors. And they will be modeling the cute clothes from Oranges & Lemons. The event is called “Kids Runway for Research” and it’s going to be a great time for the whole family!
Some other activities to expect at the event are a silent auction, activities for kids, demonstrations from vendors, and good food and drinks!
The event is at the DuPont Country Club on September 26 from 11am-4pm. You can purchase tickets at the door or you can go to Clothes in the Past Lane(on Main St.), Gloss Salon/Spa(on Main St.), Oranges & Lemons(in Greenville), or ZZHouse Design(in Newark).
If you have questions you can contact Sandi Patterson at her store, Clothes in the Past Lane, at 302-369-1960.
I will be there and I hope to see you and your family there too!
Don’t you wish that the pictures you take of your children would be even close to as amazing as the ones the professionals take of them? Well, Kate Callahan was kind enough to give us parents some great tips on her blog. She is an amazing photographer and obviously a wonderful person for being so kind as to help us take better pictures on our own. I’m sure she’s assuming this is in between sessions with her of course! Check out this post and you’ll be a little closer to looking like a professional!
